MOV's FW2010 Preview

MOV Fall Line Preview After Inspirations!

What inspires us?

THOUGHTS ON SPRING:

Tahir Sultan and Alexander McQueen's 2011 Resort Lines are full of exaggerated shapes and bold hems. While McQueen was always an innovative designer, Sultan has been reinventing similar creations since 2008.

Miu Miu went super bright for Spring, while Marc Jacobs, Yves St. Laurent and Burberry in collaboration with Mary Kate Olsen, left the colors behind, and went back to last year's neutrals, grays and blacks.

50's Redux is in, as are many 60s styles (especially those that influenced the 90s). I'm in love with Chris Benz' line.

I have to give credit to the classic Chanel who is doing drop waist right. We'll see a lot of this style, as it's the first step to reinventing the cut. With all the batwing, dolman and oversized tops that have filled the stores in the past few years, I think this is an obvious next step. (Which we also see, in transition form, in Chris Benz' Resort 2011 above.)

THOUGHTS ON FALL:

While we have a few tricks up our sleeves for Spring, the girls at MOV have decided to relaunch our fall line for Throwback 2010. The cold air is just around the corner, and we want to keep you warm and fashionable in our beautiful Prada, Chanel, Mabille, Sultan, Jacobs, Lanvin, Fendi, Cavalli inspired line.

Yes, there will be capes, fur, and a runway full of exaggerated avant garde asymmetry. It will be dramatic and perfect in every way. Our show is created with the pieces that
inspired the trends - reinvented to compliment current fashion.
There is nothing more legitimate.

I hope you appreciate it as much as we do.
Welcome to fall.

Cheapy Art: Become an art collector on a budget!

CHEAPY ART is coming to THROWBACK 2010!

Cheapy Art is a series of fundraisers organized by local artists planning on participating in the 2010 St. Louis Artists’ Guild Study Abroad Program, which will be traveling to the Republic of Indonesia. While abroad, the program’s artists will immerse themselves in Indonesian art and culture, create work, and exhibit in one of Jakarta’s top galleries.

The 2010 Study Abroad Program is organized by the St. Louis Artists’ Guild in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General in Chicago and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Washington, D.C. The goal of the Study Abroad Program is to encourage mutual cultural exchange and enlightenment between the two countries and to raise international awareness of the richness and diversity of the St. Louis artistic community.

Fashion Photography in the 90's

Fashion in the 90's was a dichotomy of glamor and grunge. The decade gave us the definition of a modern Supermodel in Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell, as well as the street fashion, grunge inspired heroin chic of Kate Moss. The fashion photography of the 60's was called upon and reinvented in a darker and more cinematic way. Fashion photographers documented life behind the catwalk as well life on the streets. Notable photographers of the decade are Roxanne Lowit, Corrine Day , Herb Ritts and Terry Richardson, just to name a few.

Being a photographer I think the best way to illustrate the fashion imagery of the decade is to show you. Nothing speaks more clearly than a photograph. These are some of my favorites from the 90's as well as others that were inspired by the imagery of the decade.

If you would like to get an idea on how revolutionary the blending of music, street fashion and advertising was in the 90's, check out this article by the New York Times, published in 1996.

So, have I whetted your taste buds? Want to see what 90's inspired garments you can grab for yourself? You must come to Throwback 2010! We, at Vintage Luxe Photography, will be documenting the fantastic runway as well as photographing in our 90's photo lounge where you can practice your best Christy or Kate pose.
